The Fourth Sino-German Academic Symposium “Humboldt Day,” is to be held by the Center for German Studies at Sichuan International Studies University (China·Chong Qing) from October 17 to 18, 2026. The theme of this year’s conference is “Nature · Culture · Life: Alexander von Humboldt’s Earth System.” This theme is rooted in the profound thought of Alexander von Humboldt. Many of Humboldt’s ideas have yet to be fully realized to this day—whether in the field of ecology, concerning the co-existence and mutual flourishing of human beings and their environment, or in the realms of economics and science. The symposium will establish a new international hub within the Humboldt academic network, connecting Latin America, the Caribbean, China, the United States, and Europe, and fostering dialogue on questions such as how we should better develop our planet, what forms of international coexistence we should build, and what paths Humboldt’s scholarly thought has illuminated for harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
