From October 23 to 26, the second Humboldt Day series of academic activities, titled "Rethinking the World," was held at Hunan Normal University. The event was jointly organized by the Foreign Studies College and the Humboldt Center for Transdisciplinary Studies at Hunan Normal University. The activities included Humboldt-themed academic lectures and keynote speeches, aiming to commemorate the German naturalist, travel writer, and philosopher, Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859).

Cosmos, the magnum opus of German scholar Alexander von Humboldt, was written over a period of about thirty years in his later life. The book was published in five volumes between 1845 and 1862, covering all aspects of the human environment and providing a comprehensive overview of the knowledge of the material world at the time. The first volume, translated by Gao Hong, was published in 2023.

On September 14, 2020, the unveiling ceremony and founding conference of the Humboldt Center for Transdisciplinary Studies at Hunan Normal University were held at the College of Foreign Languages. This is the first Alexander von Humboldt research institution in China, which will promote domestic research on Alexander von Humboldt, explore the importance of interdisciplinary research based on Humboldt's ideas in China, and encourage cross-disciplinary studies in areas such as literature and society, culture and geography, as well as history and language. It will also strengthen the ties between China and Germany/Europe.
